MURRYSVILLE COMMUNITY ALERT: The Rising Threat of Xylazine in Our Backyard

Residents of Murrysville should be informed about the current drug landscape in the region. The DEA has identified fentanyl as a significant drug threat in the U.S. In recent times, there has been a noted mix of fentanyl with xylazine, an animal tranquilizer, in various parts of the country.

There have been two overdose deaths in Beaver County attributed to this drug combination. This issue is not limited to Beaver County but has been observed throughout the region, including in Westmoreland County, where Murrysville is located.

Westmoreland County officials have reported finding xylazine in a considerable percentage of the heroin samples encountered in the area. The presence of this combination has been noted throughout Westmoreland County.

Data from the Westmoreland County Coroner's office indicates that a significant percentage of overdoses this year tested positive for xylazine, showing an increase compared to the previous year.

Nationally, the government has recognized xylazine as an emerging drug threat, marking a first of its kind in such categorization.

Authorities at various levels, including the FBI, are investigating the origin of these threats. The district reassures the community of the safety of its students and staff, emphasizing the importance of discussing the severity of such threats with children.

Franklin Regional remains steadfast in its commitment to the community's safety and well-being.

🗳️ Changes in Polling Locations for Upcoming General Election in Murrysville

There have been some key updates regarding the polling locations for the upcoming general election on November 7. The Westmoreland County Elections Board has approved the relocation of certain polling stations to better accommodate voters.

The polling station for the East Murrysville precinct has been relocated to the First Presbyterian Church, situated at 3201 North Hills Road. This change comes after the previous venue, the First United Methodist Church on Old William Penn Highway, was sold, necessitating the move to ensure voters have a convenient location to cast their ballots.

Meanwhile, some changes have also been made in nearby Salem Township. The Hugus precinct will now be hosted at the Congruity Presbyterian Church at 136 Fenneltown Road in New Alexandria, due to renovations at the previously utilized St. James Church.

Additionally, Salem’s Mechling precinct, which was also housed at St. James Church, has been moved to the Forbes Road Volunteer Fire Department located at 332 Fire Station Road in Forbes Road.

These changes aim to ensure a smooth voting process for everyone in the community. Be sure to note down the new polling location for your precinct, and spread the word among your neighbors to ensure everyone is well-informed.

For any further queries or details about the election, you can reach out to the Westmoreland County Elections Board.

🏈 Panthers vs. Titans: A Friday Night Showdown Game Preview

Alright, Franklin Regional fans, it's that time again! This Friday, our Panthers are suiting up and taking on the Shaler Titans right here at Panther Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m., and you won't want to miss a minute.

For those keeping track, Shaler is coming in hot with a 4-0 record. Last week they managed to pull off a win against Hempfield, 33-17. Their QB, Keegan Smetanka, is on fire, tossing 285 yards and three TDs last game. And let's not forget Nathan Rozzo's mad dash of 105 yards or Joey DeSabato's jaw-dropping seven catches.

But hey, we've got our own stars, right? Even though last week's game against Gateway was rough (44-24, for those who missed it), our Panthers started off strong. We've always been proud of our defense, and this Friday, they're itching to show Shaler what they've got.

Remember last year's clash? That heart-stopping 42-41 loss in double OT? Man, that was a game! It was hot, it was homecoming, and it was oh-so-close. This year? We're looking for some sweet redemption.
