🚨 Murrysville to Participate in Nationwide Emergency Alert Test on October 4th
On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 2:20 p.m., Murrysville residents will join millions across the nation in experiencing a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The test, a coordinated effort to ensure the effectiveness of our public warning systems during emergencies, will permeate through all consumer cell phones, radios, and televisions. Your devices will momentarily buzz and flicker with test messages, a crucial exercise aimed at safeguarding our community and nation during potential future emergencies.
Testing Details:
WEA Test: All consumer cell phones will receive a test message.
EAS Test: Radios and televisions will broadcast a test message.
This integral test seeks to affirm the reliability and efficiency of these systems in promptly communicating vital information during actual emergencies.
In the event of a postponement due to severe weather or other significant interruptions, the backup date for this test is slated for October 11, 2023. For more details and updates, visit www.fema.gov.

At 6:30 p.m., before the highly anticipated kick-off, the stadium will shimmer with anticipation as the 2023 Homecoming King and Queen, elected by their senior peers, are crowned in a heartwarming ceremony that encapsulates the spirit of Franklin Regional. In keeping with tradition, this moment will not only elevate two students to Panther Royalty but also signify the unity and collective spirit that is a hallmark of our community.

It’s a night where the collective heartbeat of the community is felt strongest, pulsating through the stands, the field, and the players themselves.

⛳️ Franklin Regional's Mauser Navigates Through Nerves and Advances to WPIAL Golf Championship Final Round
Sophomore Dylan Mauser from Franklin Regional advanced to the final round of the WPIAL Class 3A boys golf championships, despite a nerve-wracking first round at Latrobe Country Club. Mauser shot a 10-over 82, securing his place two strokes clear of the cut line and giving himself a chance to qualify for the PIAA championship at Penn State on October 16-17.
Expressing relief and mixed feelings about his performance, he mentioned a consistent round with a few good par saves but also some missed opportunities. Mauser remained hopeful and aimed to put forth his best in the final round at Valley Brook Country Club, with an eye toward state qualification. Meanwhile, the WPIAL girls golf championship is set for October 4, where Franklin Regional’s Ali Boyle and Gianna Johnson will also seek advancement to states.

🌲Duff Park: A Tapestry of Trails, Trees, and Tranquility in Murrysville
In the bustling town of Murrysville, there lies a serene escape known as Duff Park, a place where nature unfolds its beauty in every corner. Located at 4500 School Road South, this park is a cherished retreat for those seeking tranquility amidst nature's splendor.
As you step into Duff Park, you are greeted by the lush canopy of trees, a testament to the park's designation as a wild plant sanctuary by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The park sprawls over a hilly, heavily wooded terrain, running parallel to Route 22, making it a picturesque escape right in the heart of the community.
One of the park's highlights is the Funk Bikeway, a scenic trail that runs along Turtle Creek, providing a flat walking and biking trail for about 1.5 miles. This trail is a favorite among locals, offering a peaceful stroll or ride alongside the gently flowing waters of Turtle Creek.
But the adventure doesn't stop there. Duff Park boasts a variety of trails catering to different levels of outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you are in for a relaxing walk or a strenuous climb, the trails at Duff Park offer a range of experiences. The Round Top Trail, for instance, connects to Round Top Road, leading you to the historic Staymates Log House, adding a touch of history to your nature exploration.
The pavilion at Duff Park is a welcoming spot for picnickers. With eight tables and a surrounding that resonates with the chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves, it's a perfect place for family gatherings or a quiet afternoon picnic.
Duff Park is not just a recreational venue but also an educational hub for botany enthusiasts. The park is known for its splendid display of woodland spring blooming wildflowers, making it a photographer's paradise. The Friends of Murrysville Parks have even published color guides to the Spring, Summer, and Fall wildflowers of Duff Park, making it an excellent destination for those keen on exploring the flora of Pennsylvania.
Moreover, the park has been recognized as a Wild Plant Sanctuary, and its abundance of native plants has earned it the designation of an Old Growth Forest, a rare accolade in Pennsylvania, as mentioned by Friends of Murrysville Parks.
Whether you are a seasoned hiker, a casual walker, a nature photographer, or someone simply looking to escape the urban grind, Duff Park offers a slice of wilderness amidst its well-preserved landscapes. Its rich biodiversity and untouched natural surroundings make it a cherished spot for locals and visitors alike.
This feature aims to unveil the lesser-known charm of Duff Park, a place where every trail leads to a new discovery, and every visit leaves you with a sense of peace and a deeper appreciation for nature's wonders.
