🏈 Franklin Regional Narrowly Defeated in Homecoming Clash
In a closely contested homecoming game last Friday, Franklin Regional fell just short against North Hills, with a final score of 16-14. Despite the loss, the team showcased their determination and skill on the field.
Kyle Dupill was a standout, rushing for 213 yards and contributing two touchdowns to the team's score. His performance was a highlight in a game filled with intense moments.
The result concluded Franklin Regional's four-game winning streak at home, but the team remains in a strong position with a 6-3 season record. They now turn their attention to the upcoming game against Penn-Trafford, set for this Friday at 7:00 p.m.
🎶 Murrysville's Rock Talks: Where Music Meets Education in Free Community Events
In an innovative fusion of rock music, history, and science, the Murrysville Recreation Department and the Murrysville Community Library have launched "Rock Talks", a series of free community programs designed to engage and educate.
The series promises to be more than just a musical journey. The inaugural session, "Have a Drink on Me: The Science & Songs of Alcohol", slated for January 18 at the local Devout Brewing, will delve into the intricate science behind beer brewing and whiskey distilling. Attendees can expect a rich tapestry of information, interwoven with iconic tracks from legendary bands such as AC/DC and ZZ Top.
A subsequent session on February 6, titled "Credit Where Credit is Overdue", seeks to spotlight the often-overlooked contributions of Black artists to the annals of rock music history. Set in the familiar confines of the Murrysville Community Library, this session promises a deep dive into the legacies of blues and early rock & roll musicians of color, while also giving a nod to contemporary artists.
While the events are open to the public, the organizers encourage potential attendees to register in advance via the Murrysville Library website. However, they also emphasize that walk-ins will be warmly welcomed.
The overarching vision behind "Rock Talks" is clear: to offer the community a unique intersection of education and entertainment. By intertwining these elements, the organizers hope to foster a profound appreciation for the cultural significance of rock music.
For those interested in this harmonious blend of music and learning, further details can be found on the library’s website.
Export Borough's Renaissance: Council Candidates Eye a Brighter Future
he Westmoreland Heritage Trail has been a catalyst for Export's downtown revival. As council elections near, four candidates vie for three seats, each aiming to further this rejuvenation.
Veteran council member, John Nagoda, emphasizes the need for continued growth, while Fire Chief David Silvis prioritizes public safety and infrastructure planning. Stephen Opsitnick, heading the borough’s public works, seeks a more hands-on role in shaping the town's future. Joe Ferri, owner of Joey’s The Edge, celebrates the council's unity and envisions leveraging the Heritage Trail for further enhancements.
The upcoming elections promise a shared vision for a prosperous Export.
🏃 DNA Charity Costume Run Set to Benefit UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation
Dedicated Nursing Associates (DNA) is gearing up for its fourth annual Charity Costume Run, a festive 5k event that invites participants to don their favorite Halloween costumes. The run is scheduled for Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 10:30 AM EDT.
The race will commence at the Westmoreland Heritage Trail, adjacent to Ginny's Neighborhood Pizza Joint, located at 5549 Old William Penn Highway in Murrysville. Participants can look forward to not only a fun-filled run but also a chance to win rewards in categories such as best individual costume, best duo costume, and best group costume.
But the event is not just about fun and games. A significant portion of the proceeds, including from t-shirt sales available on DNA's store, will be donated to the UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation. The foundation plays a pivotal role in supporting the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh's mission, offering a myriad of services that benefit the Pittsburgh community daily.
DNA expressed its gratitude for the opportunity to assist the foundation in its noble mission, emphasizing the importance of ensuring excellence in patient care, teaching, and research.
🎟️ For those interested in joining the cause, tickets are priced at $15 and can be purchased through the event's official page.
