🏈 Franklin Regional to Face Peters Township in High-Stakes Quarterfinal
The Franklin Regional Panthers are preparing for a pivotal Class 5A quarterfinal matchup against the undefeated Peters Township Indians this Friday. The game is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff at McMurray's Confluence Financial Partners Stadium.
With a 6-4 record, the Panthers are looking to upset Peters Township's perfect season. Last week, Franklin Regional fell to Penn-Trafford, while Peters Township secured a commanding victory over Bethel Park.
The Panthers, who have been playoff contenders every year since 2003 and claimed the WPIAL and PIAA titles in 2005, are led by juniors Kyle Dupill and Jude Gentile in the running game, with quarterback Chase Lemke providing aerial threats. Senior receiver Ayden Hudock is another key player, with notable contributions to the team's offense.
Peters Township, returning to the postseason after a hiatus last year, has had a strong showing throughout the Allegheny Six Conference. Quarterback Nolan DiLucia and running back Vinny Sarcone are central to their offensive strategy.
The winner of Friday's game will advance to the semifinals, facing the victor of the Moon versus Gateway matchup on November 10.
Franklin Regional Invites Senior Citizens to Holiday Breakfast and "A Christmas Carol" Matinee
Franklin Regional Senior High is extending a warm invitation to senior citizens from the Delmont, Export, and Murrysville areas to a festive holiday breakfast and a matinee performance of "A Christmas Carol." The morning will commence with valet parking and a welcoming arrival period between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. at the Franklin Regional Senior High Cafeteria & Auditorium, located at 3200 School Road, Murrysville, PA 15668. 🦅 Westmoreland Conservatory's Tomer Reserve Hosts Bird-Watching Hike with a Sweet Twist
The Westmoreland Conservatory is inviting nature lovers and bird watchers to the Tomer Hot Chocolate Hike on December 16th. The event will start at 10 a.m. at the Tomer Reserve, with participants gathering at the parking area at the northern end of Twin Oaks Drive. The hike promises an engaging exploration of overwintering birds in the area, capped off with a warm serving of hot chocolate upon return to the parking lot.
The Tomer Reserve, a 17-acre expanse known for its bird-watching prospects, especially during the spring and summer months, offers a picturesque walk through both mature and secondary growth forests. Despite its modest size and the presence of utility easements, the reserve is a cherished spot for local birders. A notable feature is the windfall in the middle of the loop trail, which provides a natural habitat for various bird species and mammals.
This land was generously donated to the Westmoreland Conservatory by the descendants of Barbara Holzshu Tomer, a local artist, as a tribute to her memory. The parcel, once destined for subdivision, now serves as a haven for wildlife and a peaceful retreat for the community.
