Murrysville Council Deliberates on 2024 Budget and Local Developments

During the recent Murrysville Council meeting, significant discussions and decisions took place regarding the municipality's financial planning and community development.

A detailed presentation by Ms. Milchak outlined the finalized operating budget for 2024, which incorporates Capital Improvements and all municipal funds. The total proposed budget stands at $15,615,140, marking a modest 1.34% increase from the previous year. The General Fund is set to increase by 5% to $10,567,825, while the Capital Reserve will see an 11% reduction to $3,401,000 compared to the 2023 Capital Improvement Plan.

The Debt Service budget remains unchanged at $417,113. The estimated value of a mill has risen slightly by 1% to $340,000. Notably, the dedicated millage for the upcoming year is pegged at 12.15, with no tax increase anticipated, although a reallocation of millage is proposed.

Key actions taken by the Council included:

Authorization for the Chief Administrator to consent to the sale of property at 6283 Old William Penn Highway to Daniel Randolph and Daniel McKenna.

Tabling of Ordinance No. 1076-23, which aims to regulate short-term rental units within Murrysville and establish penalties for violations.

Approval of SP-2-23 for Eat’n Park, permitting an addition and improvements to the existing structure at 4584 William Penn Highway.

Awarding of the DPW-3-23 contract for the Duff Park Bridge Repair Project to Kurkurin Contracting, Inc., with a budget not exceeding $75,000.

The next Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. Residents can access approved minutes of previous meetings on the municipal website under the "Agendas and Minutes" section.

⚠️Duff Park Bridge Repairs to Temporarily Halt Pedestrian Access

Murrysville residents are advised that starting November 20th, pedestrian bridges in Duff Park will be closed for necessary repairs. The closures are expected to last until the new year, with a tentative completion date of January 1st. During this period, active construction will be underway, and for safety reasons, pedestrian access to the bridges will be strictly prohibited.

The municipality regrets any inconvenience caused by these essential maintenance efforts and thanks the community for their understanding and cooperation. Should there be any questions or concerns regarding the construction or alternate park access routes, residents are encouraged to contact the engineering department directly at 724-327-2100, extension 114.

Community Food Drive Kickstarted by Victory Car Dealership and Steelers Tight End

Victory Car Dealership in Salem has initiated a month-long food drive to support the Westmoreland Food Bank, with the kickoff event featuring an appearance by Steelers tight end Darnell Washington.

The dealership has previously supported the food bank and chose to renew its efforts this holiday season, recognizing the organization's critical role in the community. The food bank, currently aiding over 8,000 households monthly, has reported a significant decrease in food donations this year and is in urgent need of various food items to continue its services, which include running food pantries, military food shares, and produce distribution programs.

While the dealership has not set a specific goal for the drive, the emphasis is on collecting as much as possible to address the basic human need for food security.
