Franklin Regional School Board Election Results: New Faces and Familiar Ones Emerge Victorious

In a significant election for the Franklin Regional school board, three fresh faces and two returning members have emerged as the victors for the four-year seats, based on the unofficial vote counts.

The completed tally of votes places Deb Bucciero at the forefront with 16% of the votes, closely followed by Scott Weinman with 15.8%, Vince Azzolina with 15.3%, John Fallat with 14.8%, and Joshua Zebrak with 14.2%, making them the leading candidates in the race.

The election saw a competitive field with George App, Vince Azzolina, Deb Bucciero, John Fallat, Amy Sheridan, Scott Weinman, and Josh Zebrak vying for the five available positions on the board. Meanwhile, incumbent Herb Yingling faced off against challenger David Murphy for a two-year term.

In a closely watched contest, incumbent Herb Yingling managed to secure his seat with a narrow victory, garnering 50.3% of the votes against Murphy’s 49.51%, reflecting a tightly contested race.

The election results signal a new chapter for the Franklin Regional school board, with a mix of new perspectives and experienced leadership set to guide the district's future endeavors.

Murrysville's New Budget Aims to Enhance Community Services Without Raising Taxes

Murrysville's 2024 budget proposal maintains the property tax rate at 12.15 mills but suggests reallocating millage to support community services like Murrysville Medic One. The $15.6 million budget, up 1.34% from 2023, will fund various capital projects, including significant street and park improvements.

The budget also responds to Medic One's request for additional funding, proposing a $100,000 transfer from the general fund. Revenue from oil and gas leases will now enhance park funds, and the municipality plans to manage its bridge inspections internally. The final decision on the budget will occur in December.

Export Borough Sees Shift in Council as Opsitnick Wins Seat, Nagoda Out After Decades

Stephen Opsitnick leads the Export Borough Council race with over 35% of the votes, according to unofficial results. Longtime incumbent John Nagoda lost his seat, finishing fourth. The election, with a voter turnout of just over 50%, also saw incumbents David Silvis and Joe Ferri secure significant votes. The new council looks to continue improvements linked to the Westmoreland Heritage Trail's influence on the borough.

Franklin Regional School District Alert: Internet Outage Affects Parent Conference Day

The Franklin Regional School District has announced an internet outage affecting its operations. As a result, the Parent-Teacher Conference Day scheduled for Thursday, November 9, 2023, will undergo adjustments. The district has shifted all planned in-person conferences to virtual meetings.

Parents can expect to receive email links for the virtual conferences directly from the teachers they have appointments with. These links will be sent out before the scheduled conference times. Although report cards will not be ready for review prior to the conferences, teachers will have access to necessary student records and data to discuss during the meetings.

Please note that there will be no classes for students on Thursday, November 9, or Friday, November 10. The district appreciates the community's flexibility and understanding as they work to maintain the planned conference day schedules amidst these technical difficulties.
