Severe Collision on Route 66 Bypass Results in Hospitalization and Traffic Delays
On Wednesday morning, a major traffic incident occurred near the northern end of the Route 66 Bypass in Salem, leading to significant disruptions and a medical emergency. The accident, reported at approximately 8:45 a.m., involved a collision between a car and a tractor-trailer in the southbound lanes. The impact was severe, resulting in the car being extensively damaged and overturned. Tragically, the force of the accident caused the ejection of a passenger from the vehicle, necessitating immediate medical attention.
Emergency services promptly responded to the scene, and the injured individual was quickly transported to the hospital via ambulance. The condition of the person has not been disclosed. In the aftermath of the crash, traffic flow was heavily impacted, with southbound traffic reduced to a single lane as officials worked to clear the scene and conduct necessary investigations. As of 9:30 a.m., the traffic restrictions were still in place, indicating the severity of the accident and the ongoing efforts to ensure road safety.

Her tenure at Mother of Sorrows was marked by significant enrollment growth and academic enhancements. Patricia Visnick will serve as the interim principal at Mother of Sorrows, with Mary Osche stepping in as acting assistant principal.

Delmont Council Plans Tax Hike and Major Roadwork with $1M Grant Pursuit
The Delmont Council has proposed a significant tax increase and a plan to secure a $1 million road work grant for the 2024 budget. The 2-mill tax hike, aimed at raising the property rate to 20 mills, marks the first such increase in over a decade.
The grant, if secured, will fund major improvements on Greensburg and Freeport Streets, including resurfacing and stormwater system enhancements. Additionally, the Council plans to conduct a $7,500 traffic study on key borough roads to address community concerns about speeding and improve road safety.
