Murrysville Weighs Financial Gains Against Environmental Risks in Fracking Decision

Murrysville Council is deliberating on whether to allow fracking beneath two of its largest public parks, Duff Park and Murrysville Community Park, with a vote scheduled for next month. The proposal, involving a lease with Olympus Energy, promises significant financial benefits to the municipality, including upfront payments and future royalties.

However, the plan has met with strong opposition from local residents, who raise concerns about environmental impacts and the safety of their community. The complexity of land ownership rights, especially at Duff Park, adds to the debate. The council's decision remains contentious, weighing the financial incentives against potential ecological risks and the community's strong attachment to its parks.

Running from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, this family-friendly celebration is a highlight of the season, offering an array of crafts, music, and festive treats.

Centered around the theme of 'Jingles & Gingerbread,' the event will immerse attendees in holiday cheer. Participants can enjoy crafting unique decorations and indulge in an assortment of holiday cookies, a nod to the program's namesake. Adding to the festive spirit, a selection of seasonal music will fill the library.

The event underscores the library's role as a gathering place for the community, offering an inclusive and joyous experience. No registration is needed for this event, ensuring easy access for everyone looking to join the festivities.

Delmont Pilgrimage Unveils 'Pilgrimage Jr.': A Nativity Story for the Younger Crowd

The Delmont Pilgrimage, known for its live-action Nativity vignettes, is introducing "Pilgrimage Jr." this December, catering specifically to children. This new version allows kids to interact with Nativity characters, ask questions, and enjoy hands-on activities. A craft session at Delmont Public Library, led by Cornerstone Ministries, will follow.

Organizers, including teachers and community volunteers, have adapted the event to be more engaging for a younger audience. "Pilgrimage Jr." is scheduled for December 2, with the full Pilgrimage event occurring on December 2-3. Participants can park at local churches and are advised to arrive early. Tickets and volunteer opportunities are available online.
