Murrysville Council Divided on Regulating Short-Term Rentals; Discussion to Continue in Upcoming Meeting
The Murrysville council is divided over the creation of an ordinance to regulate short-term rentals like Airbnb and VRBO.
While some council members believe that the ordinance could infringe on homeowners' property rights and is unnecessary given the low number of rentals in the area, others are concerned about the potential safety risks and the commercialization of residential areas.
The council is considering a permit requirement for such rentals, similar to the existing process for renting community spaces in Murrysville. The discussion has been tabled for a future meeting, with the next council meeting scheduled for September 20.
Young Franklin Regional Girls Volleyball Team Aims to Surprise with Strong Chemistry and Cohesive Play
The Franklin Regional girls volleyball team, with only three returning starters, is focusing on building experience as they progress through the season.
Despite being a younger team, Coach Rachel Carter is optimistic about the season owing to the great chemistry and cooperation among the players. The team, which secured a 3-0 win in their opening match against Elizabeth Forward, is relying on key players like Sophia Reitz, Gabby Rothrauff, and Brooke Feorene, along with promising juniors and sophomores to make a significant impact this season.
Carter highlights the team's "smooth and calm" playing style and their ability to support each other during plays, hoping to surprise other teams with their performance this year.
Gearhard Farms Corn Maze Welcomes Visitors for Seasonal Fun; Murrysville Recreation Prepares for Annual 'Trick or Treat on the Trail' Event
The Gearhard Farms corn maze in Murrysville is open until October 29, featuring a unique pattern each year.
It operates on Fridays (5-9 p.m.), Saturdays (noon-9 p.m.), and Sundays (noon-7 p.m.), with an entry fee of $8 per person, while children under 4 enter for free.
Hayrides are available at $6 per person and group bookings can be arranged.
Additionally, Murrysville Recreation is inviting vendors to join their annual "Trick or Treat on the Trail" event on October 28 along the Westmoreland Heritage Trail, aiming to register 50 vendors to distribute candy. Contact details are provided for both events for further information or bookings.

Pittsburgh Pirates Triumph Over Washington Nationals with Palacios' Home Run and Falter's Stellar Pitching
In Tuesday night's game, the Pittsburgh Pirates secured a 5-1 victory over the Washington Nationals, with notable performances from Josh Palacios and Bailey Falter. Palacios, who previously played for the Nationals, contributed significantly to the Pirates' lead with a two-run homer in the second inning, marking his eighth home run of the season.
Bailey Falter showcased a strong pitching performance, allowing only one run and four hits over six innings, marking his first start since August 27. Since joining the Pirates from Philadelphia at the trade deadline on August 1, this game improved his record to 2-1 in his tenure with the team.
Despite some struggles with runners in scoring positions, the Pirates managed to capitalize on opportunities in the fifth and seventh innings, with contributions from Endy Rodríguez and Miguel Andujar. Meanwhile, the Nationals' Joan Adon had a challenging four innings, conceding four runs and eight hits. The Nationals managed to score a run in the fourth inning, courtesy of Ildemaro Vargas bringing home Keibert Ruiz. The Pirates continue their positive streak, securing their ninth win in the last 14 games.
